Parents often work with me for Parent Coaching. In this capacity, I work to help parents improve their parenting skills. We talk about behavioral issues of their children and discuss strategies to handle the kids in an effective, emotionally healthy way that creates responsible adults. I incorporate ideas from a wide variety of parenting models, including Love and Logic, to help you meet the needs of your children, keep your own sanity and sense of humor, and create a healthy family that is good for all of its members. Parent coaching is different from therapy in that it specifically targets behavioral challenges and what parents can do about them. Therapy for parents goes deeper and can address personal and marriage issues in addition to the behavior of the children.
When appropriate, we discuss how to best navigate a divorce to do the smallest amount of damage to the children. In the cases of custody disputes, I coach, observe, give feedback when needed, write reports based on what I’ve observed and what I’ve worked on with the parents. I can give testimony regarding a client’s parenting skills. Please note: when I work with someone in a custody dispute, my first interest is the well-being of children. Hiring me to do parent coaching does not guarantee that I will advocate for you. I like to sleep well at night and the best way for me to do that is to be true to what I think is good for the emotional well-being of children.
“What it’s like to be a parent: It’s one of the hardest things you’ll ever do but it teaches you the meaning of unconditional love.”
~ Nicholas Sparks
